Thus Ayurveda literally means the science of life. Ayurveda developed significantly during the Vedic period and later some of the non-Vedic systems such as Buddhism and Jainism.

According to Ayurveda human body is composed of four basics:

  • Dhatu
  • Dosha

Ayurveda is effective in many diseases like Sciatica, Anxiety, Asthma, Arthritis, Digestive problems, Eczema, High blood pressure, High cholesterol levels, Rheumatoid arthritis etc.

However, In the 1960s Ayurveda became alternative medicine in western countries. Currently, about 70-80% population of Nepal use Ayurveda, Srilanka's practice of Ayurveda is similar to that of India.

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain, numbness and tingling of the lower limb resulting from injury or compression of the sciatic nerve. The pain of the sciatic nerve originates from the lower back and radiates towards the buttocks, back of thighs, below the knee up to the foot. The pain is usually getting worse on prolonged sitting, standing and walking and relieved by lying down.

A real-life story

A patient hailed from the small town of Gujarat, who was suffering from sciatic pain for more than 2 years but he doesn't know much about sciatica so didn't give much attention to pain as he considered it a normal pain. Pain gets worsen as time passes and before 2 months from now onwards his health condition was extremely bad due to sciatic pain as he was not able to walk, sit and sleep properly.

He went to many hospitals to cure his pain. He was advised by his doctor (MS) to do with some essential reports like MRI, CT scan to diagnose the actual cause of the pain. By the careful study of the reports, He was diagnosed with sciatica and the doctor prescribed him essential medicines to relieve pain. After a week he was again visiting the hospital because there is no such relief from pain. Now, Doctor suggested to go for surgery which is the only option to cure the disease as per Dr . He felt very helpless and his life became miserable.

He starts to find some alternatives to surgery and his near and dear ones suggested him to opt for Ayurveda which proved very beneficial from ancient times. So he found an ayurvedic hospital around 15-20kms away from his place named Dhruva Ayurvedic Hospital, Supedi. He went there, the atmosphere of the hospital was so natural and peaceful. Doctors were also very friendly and gave him assurance to cure his pain without any kind of surgery.

Amidst darkness, A thin Ray of lights gives hope in his life.

In Ayurveda, Sciatica (Gridhrasi), is considered as a Vata Vyadhi (Neurological disorder). Panchkarma treatment is very effective to cure sciatica. Along with it, there are many internal and external methods of treatments considered to be useful to cure disease.

The sciatic patient was also treated by this method for about 21 days. When he went to the hospital from his home, he was not able to walk, sit or sleep but after treatment, he came back with a smile on his face as he came out to be victorious to fight against such a dreadful disease.
