Write a note on the evolution and significance of the slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'. (CSE 2013)




The famous slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' was given by Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in the mid-1960s. At that time India was facing military aggression by Pakistan and China. at the same time, India also faced a huge scarcity of food grains. The main objective of this slogan is to rally the nation to support the soldiers and the farmers and to give them confidence in facing this adversity.

The identifies the priority for the nation's Defence and Agriculture. This way slogan proved successful.
